Mommy and Me Monday

Addy's first time holding her baby brother, Joseph.
She did not want to give him up to Grandma. She actually had a breakdown. :(
She loves him so much. It's been all hugs & kisses since he came home.

Rewind

I'm going to start this rewind starting the very early morning hours of last Sunday. Here's the rewind....

It all started about 1am, I could not, for the life of me, fall asleep. Reason, having contractions on what seemed like a regular basis. By 2am, I woke the hubby up & asked him start marking them. They were 5 minutes apart, lasting over a minute each time. They were uncomfortable, but not sure if they warrant calling the doc yet. So after about two hours of clocking the contractions, we made the call. Packed Addy & the suitcase and headed for the hospital to get checked out. Finally got ahold of the sis-in-law to come pick Addy up at the hospital. I was only at an 1 and baby had not dropped. So we waited for two hours to see if anything would happen. Nothing-the contractions started to pitter out and I was still at 1. Therefore homebound we went for some sleep. Apparently he was not ready.
Here are some past photos of the baby & me.

This a 3-D image of his face at 36weeks. The clinic had recently received the 3-D probe & the tech was playing around with it.
He's going to be a big boy. Don't you just love the chubby checks.

Mommy @ 37 weeks

Other thing new this past week, Addy has graduated to the toddler bed. She had climbed out of her crib in front of me one morning last week. We decided to give her one more chance to figure it out again. Well, during a Saturday afternoon, instead of sleeping, she was playing in her room. Books everywhere, stuffed animals scattered on the floor and clothes pulled out of her drawers. You see, usually she will talk herself to sleep and sometimes it takes her about a hour to do so. But after that hour mark, I had a inkling that something was up. She had crawled out of the crib for the second time. When she saw me in her room, she said to me, " I did it Mommy. I did it." Yes Addy, you sure did it. So, now she is free to roam her room & leave it as she pleases. I was not ready for this step. My mornings of letting her play in her crib for awhile, so I could just get those extra zzzz's, are gone. I'm not the best morning person. I love to sleep in. We are now getting the early morning wake up calls and she doesn't fall back to sleep with us, she wants to play or watch cartoons. Yesterday it was 5am.

We also had another unforeseen event happen this past week. I've been battling a swollen knee for about the last 3 weeks. I went to Urgent care Halloween eve, started an abx for a possible infected bursa. After almost 3 days on the med, I felt it was not getting better. I made an appt with an Infectious Disease MD- she had a Rheumatologist look at it. He felt is was NOT infected, just swollen and because I cannot take ibuprofen d/t the pregnancy, we had to sit on it for awhile. But finish the abx just to be on the safe side. After about 3-4 days of no improvement, it actually was getting worse. To the point where I was having a hard time walking on it and not being able to sleep because of the throbbing pain. The next day-they tapped the knee-really didn't get any fluid out. Therefore the Rheumatologist felt it was probably big blood clot on my knee. But he did send cultures to cover all the basis. It grew out a nice bacteria infection that is resistance to the oral abx I was on. So I made a overnite stay in the hospital to have IV abx started. Sent me home with a PICC line and a regimen of IV abx for 14 days. YEAH!!!! All I can do is laugh at this. This pregnancy started with a bang (pneumonia @ 6 weeks) and now it's only appropriate that ends with a bang. :)

My mother-in-law is the sweetest woman, she spent this past week with us to help out and is planning to come back tonite to help out until after big boy's arrival. Thank you Grandma!!!

To end this past week, Mother Nature decided to blanket us with the white stuff. The winter season has officially started. We've been so spoiled these past 12 days of a beautiful November with temps way above average. Addy's first words when she saw the snow falling, " What's that?" We replied, "It's snow." Addy: " I have to get my mittens." She wanted to make a snowman.

Making snow angels.

Here's Addy's friend thanks to Daddy.

Now it's time for hot chocolate! YUM!!

That's the rewind. Until next week..... (there should be a new addition to the family by then.)

Baby project

All over the blog world I have been seeing these infant car seat canopy tutorials. I thought what a great gift idea. I have now made 7 of these awesome gifts. Unfortunately, I have only one to show you. I didn't have a car seat to demo the first 6. But for the seventh one, we finally got a car seat thanks to my sisters-in-law. This is the one I made for my little one soon to enter our lives.

As you can see, I went with baseball theme. It seemed only fitting since his room is the same theme.

I thought the baseball fabric was a little busy all by it's self. I think the solid red band added just the right touch.

I added baseball hat buttons to the straps

I used navy mircofleece for the back. This fabric is the softest.
I love how this turned out.

I have thank Calli @ Make It Do for the great & easy instructions. I plan on making more of these in the coming months for friends who are expecting.

Tinkerbell Inspired

I finally finished the last handmade Christmas gift for my 3 year old niece. I had decided to make a play outfit for her. She's big into Tinkerbell. Therefore this called for a Tutu, a fairytale wand, a jeweled headband and of coarse the fairytale wings.

Here are the pictures of the finished gifts.

I got the inspiration for the wand
Thanks you ladies from Little Birdie Secrets!

Here is the jeweled headband, complements to Can't Stop Making Things blog for the idea.

As for the Tutu, I just searched YouTube for tutorials, there are tons of videos on this subject. Here's how my niece's turned out.

I'll be making Addy one of these for Christmas too. I picked the colors red, pink, purple & white for hers.

Lastly, I had make the fairytale wings. I searched several blogs and YouTube videos on how to construct the Tinkerbell-like wings. I give A Big Thank You to Mommy Blessings for the finally tutorial I used. Click Here for the instructions.

So, without any further delay, here are the wings:

I sure hope my niece likes this gift. I already wrapped in it up in a HUGE box.

Baby's Room

The new baby's room is 99% done. All that needs to be added is the crib. Since the baby will be in our room for the first few months, we decided to wait on getting the crib until after the first of the year. We have it picked out already.

We went with the baseball theme, since the hubby likes my hometown team too. If it had been a football ( the hubby's fav sport) theme, it could only be Packer colors. I'm not really keen on the green & gold color scheme. With baseball, I had more say in the color choices.

When you first walk thru the door, this what you see:

I made the scoreboard from a left over piece of plywood used for Addy's kitchen. Just painted it a red color, then lightly went over the red with a brown wash to give it a worn look. I used chalkboard spray paint for the black score boxes. That way, we or the kids can actually use it when playing baseball in the yard.

This dresser was a craiglist's find. I just painted it the same color as the room's blue. Then had the hubby spray paint the handles in rubbed bronze. (My new fav metal finish.)

This dresser will also serve as the changing table, just like Addy's dresser does.

I saved my fav piece for his room for last. I had an image in my head as to what I wanted to see on the wall above the future crib. I gave you a sneak peek months ago about this project. Well here it, all finished.

I love it!!!!!

It looks like what was in my head. I love when things turn out like that.

Now just need to add baby.

Halloween

I know it's been a month since I last wrote, but I've been frantically trying to get my list done before this baby arrives. My goal was to have the list done before November breezed in. I have to say I got the majority of the items checked off. YEAH!

So the next few or so posts will be about the last month. About what I have been able to accomplish and a rewind of the last month.
Here's the start of the Halloween celebration. This is the visit to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins to carve.

Addy got her pumpkin, She carried it the whole time we were in the patch. She keep dropping the poor pumpkin. It survived the trip until we got to the cashier, where it suffered a scratch on it's skin. Then over the next couple weeks, it was slowly rotting away. Therefore she was unable to graduate the pumpkin into a Jack-o-lantern.

Addy & Daddy starring at the moon.

The Hayride

Now fast forward to the week of Halloween: Here we are carving the pumpkins. Addy got to get her hands dirty this time around. She actually got her fingers wrapped around the great pumpkin goo. She eventually got bored of the process of carving, but her excitement picked up once we put the jack-0-lanterns outside and put candles in them.

Here are some pics to share of the masterpieces.

This was the best family pic to choose from. Addy was getting cranky about taking photos.

THE Jack-O-Lanterns

Earlier I told y'all about Addy's costume, I decided she was going to be a pirate after watching a Cailou episode and she started talk like a pirate. Well, here's how the costume turned out. I sewed the skirt and overskirt, found a simple white shirt and used a fat quarter for her headscarf. The head piece lasted all of 30 seconds on her head. It took several tries to get a pic of the whole costume. She kept saying that the headscarf a "Too big. It's too big'" Her way of saying she does not want to wear it.

We didn't take her trick or treating this year. But did to attend our friend's annual Halloween party. I heard she had tons of fun with all the kids. ( I had to work :( )

On actual Halloween, we had the total of ONE, yes the number 1, trick or treater. That is 2 less than last year's total. It doesn't help we live out on the boonies. So next year, we will be making the trek door to door for our share of the treats. :)

On one last note: When it was time to blow out the candles in the jack-o-lanterns, Addy would say, "We have to sing Happy Birthday to the pumpkins!"
Get the connection?
So Happy Birthday Halloween!
